Peep Show themed marathon from Croydon to Windsor

More than a hundred Peep Show fans “accidentally” ran to Windsor to raise money for mental health charities.

The marathon was held on October 12 by The Dobby Club that raised around £4000 in total for the charity Mind, a mental health support charity, and Andy’s Man Club, a charity focused on men’s suicide prevention.

The marathon began in Croydon, at the main site of filming for the TV show, and ended in Windsor, honouring the route that one of the show’s characters, Super Hans, accidentally ran when quitting drugs in the Season 7 episode ‘A Beautiful Mind’.

Giles Bursnell, owner of the Peep Show fan group called The Dobby Club, said: “The thing I like about the Peep Show crew is everyone’s just got a great sense of humour and there are so many creative people.”

Among those running was comedian Ivo Graham and his brother Ludo, who came second and first.

Graham stated: “Finding out that a run to Windsor even existed was a thrill enough on its own, but watching my brother lift the Megatron, surrounded by natural runners and El Dude Brothers as far as the eye could see, was truly one of the proudest moments of my life.

“It was such a great day!”

At the finish line, Graham was dared to drink a yard of ale, a drink that the two main characters drink in the stag do episode.

While Big Mad Andy, a role played by Liam Noble in the show, served ‘Big Mad Shandies’.

The award for finishing first was a golden ‘Megatron’ made by one of the marathon participants using a 3D printer, with all other participants receiving a packet of McCoy’s, a Ribena and a Twirl.

The Megatron is four remote controls taped together featured in the Burglary episode, for the marathon it was 3D printed and painted gold.

When asked about the making of the trophy, Bursnell said: “I can’t believe how perfectly executed it was.”

There were only 20 tickets originally listed, but due to a high demand for tickets the amount had to be upped, the final count for participants was 110.

Bursnell stated: “That’s the thing I love about Peep Show it just seems to connect everyone, everyone seems to love it.”

The original plan was to meet outside ‘Apollo House’ where the show was based (Zodiac Court in West Croydon), however the building manager who is also a fan of the show offered the lobby for people to warm up.

Bursnell explained: “It was really unbelievable being in the holy ground where Peep Show was first filmed and that’s where it all started.”

A temporary finish line was set up in Windsor, the home of Windsor Castle.

Two undercover police cars as well as someone from the Crown of State were sent to question what event was occurring.

Bursnell joked: “I didn’t really want to ask King Charles if we could set up on his lawn.”

The Dobby Club has held monthly Peep Show pub quizzes at Brixton Jamm for the past six years, on the first Thursday of every month.
