As the general election approaches, Times Radio has revealed a brand-new bus which will travel up and down the country providing viewers with election coverage.
The bus began its tour on June 4 and will be travelling to 29 locations in England, Scotland and Wales before returning to London the day before the election.
At each location, Times Radio will provide real-time updates, analysis, interviews and debate to keep viewers informed about the latest election campaign developments.
Unlike the ‘battle buses’ of political parties that set off to win over voters, the Times Radio bus will travel across the country to gauge what people think ahead of the election and highlighting the political issues that matter most to them.
Tim Levell, programme director of Times Radio, said: “The General Election is the one moment when power flows to every individual person across the United Kingdom.
“We are delighted that the Times Radio Election Bus, complete with its state-of-the-art on-board radio studio, will be visiting communities right across the country, to hear the concerns and opinions of the voters who will decide our next government.”
Each stop along the way will feature ‘Election Questions,’ where residents can pose their pressing questions to political party candidates against a No.10 Downing Street backdrop.
The shows will be brought to listeners from the bus and there will be special guests, including party leaders, as well as quizzes and other activities for people to get involved with.
Kate McCann, Times Radio’s political editor, explained the bus would start in Dover and then go onto Burnley, Salford and Warrington in the coming days.
She said: “We are also going to Edinburgh, Glasgow, and all the way down to the coast to get a feel for how people are going to vote and what matters to them.”
“We’d love as many people to come along as possible and we will be publishing our schedule, letting people know where we are.”
When asked what she is most looking forward to about the bus tour, McCann responded: “I love a bus, I love an election bus and I like being out of London.
“I also like meeting people so that’s what I’m looking forward to the most.
“Also, we’ve got some good snacks and Times Radio merch.”
The broadcaster also felt there would be surprises in the lead up to the general election.
She said: “I was quite surprised about Nigel Farage deciding to stand having ruled that out!
“I think there probably will be some more surprises, I hope there will be, and we’ll bring you all of them from the Times Radio bus.”
