All of the following films are available to watch on Netflix in the UK this Valentine’s Day.
Just Like Heaven
This 2005 film directed by Mark Waters (Freaky Friday, Mean Girls) stars Mark Ruffalo as a recently widowed architect who discovers the ghost of a beautiful physician, played by Reese Witherspoon, when he moves into his new apartment.
Based on a 1999 French novel, Just Like Heaven’s elements of fantasy make it stand out from other romantic comedies.
Portrait of a Lady on Fire
This is a 2019 French historical romantic drama set in the 18th century about the affair between two young women: an aristocrat and the painter commissioned to paint her portrait.
Critically-acclaimed and multi-award-winning, don’t be put off by its French dialogue and instead embrace the most romantic of languages.
Mr and Mrs. Smith
Perhaps most famous for its on-set romance between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, Mr and Mrs. Smith stars Pitt and Jolie as the titular couple in this 2005 action comedy.
The action-packed film follows the couple, who turn out to be assassins from competing agencies assigned to kill one another.
In from the Side
This 2022 romantic drama depicts the adulterous affair between two rugby players who meet at a gay rugby club in London.
Partly funded by crowdfunding, In from the Side is unlike most other films on Netflix but is no less worthy of viewing.
What’s Love Got to Do with It?
Another 2022 release, What’s Love Got to Do with It stars Lily James and Shazad Latif in this romantic comedy that tackles arranged marriages, culture clashes and friendships becoming relationships.
