The news in January 2023: Prince Harry’s Interview and the release of his memoir, Spare, kicked off the new year and the disappearance of Nicola Bulley sparked nation-wide interest.
Harry: The Interview and his memoir
Ahead of the release of his memoir Spare, the Duke of Sussex was interviewed by ITV’s Tom Bradby discussing what compelled him to reveal his story.
Filmed in California, where the prince lives, two interviews were broadcast one in the UK on ITV1 and another on CBS in the US.
Beginning in with an excerpt from his memoir, he revealed how he feels compassion for his father having to tell his young sons their mother was gone.
Other topics Prince Harry discussed was his search to see the secret government file on his mother’s death, the altercation with William at Nottingham Cottage and the Jeremy Clarkson article.
Prince Harry reiterated his love for his father and his brother multiple times during the interview and maintained his attempts to contact his family to arrange a conversation had been rebuffed, saying: “the ball is in their court”.
Insisting he was not stuck in the past, he explained the Netflix documentary and his memoir were “look-back projects”.
His memoir went on sale on January 10 and according to Guinness World Records, Spare became the fastest selling non-fiction book of all time, on the day of release.
The disappearance of Nicola Bulley
On January 27, Nicola Bulley went missing whilst walker her dog in Lancashire and sparked a nationwide interest into the disappearance of the mother of two.
Lancashire Constabulary said there were no evidence of suspicious activity or third party involvement.
An extensive search for here commenced of the river and surrounding land using divers, helicopters, sniffer dogs, and drones.
Her body was found on February 19 a mile downstream, and an inquest determined she died due to accidental drowning.
The intense media coverage of her disappearance and the seemingly lack of progress in finding her, led to ‘social media detectives’ visiting the location, trespassing on nearby properties and questioning residents.
