Hannah Klugman and Isabelle Lacy are relishing the chance to go for the girls’ doubles title at Wimbledon after easing through their semi-final.
In a wide open draw, the all-British duo – who are both supported by the LTA’s men’s and women’s Programme – were one of three unseeded pairings left at the last four stage.
And they were up against Tatum Evans and Alanis Hamilton on Court 4 on Saturday, the American pairing having also defied the odds to reach this stage.
But it was Klugman and Lacy who dominated the contest, easing their way to a set and a double break lead, and closing out the contest at the second time of asking in a 6-2 6-4 win.
“It’s incredible – we’re just so happy to be in the final,” said Klugman.
“I think our teamwork and game has really improved this week. We haven’t really played together before this week, so it’s a shock to make the final but we’re so happy to be here.”
Lacy added: “The British crowd are such an advantage for us, we really thrive off, especially at the big points where they get really loud.
“At 5-2 in the second set everyone was cheering for us, it’s really amazing.”
Up next is another unseeded pairing in the form of Czech players Alena Kovačková and Laura Samsonová, who defeated second seeds Renáta Jamrichová and Federica Urgesi in their semi-final contest.
Despite heading into the final on an even keel, Klugman is embracing a pressure-free environment ahead.
She commented: “We’ve got nothing to lose. We’re just going to go in and see what we can do. We’ll rest up and see how it goes.”
