Hannah Klugman and Isabelle Lacy were thrilled to get over the line as they started their girls’ doubles campaign with a win at Wimbledon.
Wimbledon local Klugman and Surrey’s Lacy, who are both supported by the LTA’s Men’s & Women’s Programmes, were in strong form to beat Emerson Jones and Ema Milic.
Klugman and Lacy were buoyed by passionate home crowd support out on Court 4, with both pleased with the evening overall.
“I think the energy was incredible – the crowd were obviously amazing, as we’re both British,” said Klugman.
“I think we played a solid game, really great to get the win today, and hopefully we can get better for the next match.
“At the change of ends after the first set we were obviously pleased, but it’s all about going again for the next set. We obviously wanted to get the win in two.”
Lacy added: “I think we really bounce off each other’s energy, we really have a lot of fun out there, and played some pretty good tennis at times. We’re pretty happy.
“I think we both served pretty well throughout the whole match. We were pretty dominant on serve and then we had chances on our returning games we took them.”
Though it was a solid display all in all, there is one area Lacy is looking to work on before their next match.
She commented: “I think for me it’s about executing a few volleys. I made them but didn’t really put them away, and then Hannah had to hit the next shot.
“I need to execute them a bit better, but I think we played a pretty good match.”
