Twickenham’s Munira Wilson would be only non-Labour MP in London according to new poll

Twickenham would be the only London constituency not under Labour’s control if an election was held today, a new poll has revealed.

Labour has gained a massive 37-point lead over the Conservatives in the capital in the newest poll by Survation.

The polling puts Labour at 59% the Conservatives at 22% and the Lib Dems at 13%.

If these results were replicated in a general election, it would mean that the Conservatives would lose all of their 21 London seats including that of Boris Johnson.

Labour would in turn gain 23 seats, leaving Liberal Democrat Munira Wilson the sole non-Labour MP in London.

Among Conservative losses would be strongholds such as Bromley and Chislehurst, with current Chief Secretary to the Treasury Chris Philp and former minister Greg Hands both left without a seat in Parliament.

The poll echoes similar results from YouGov who have the Labour Party up by 44% and Redfield and Wilton who have them up by 35% respectively.

The results arrive after Liz Truss and Chancellor of the Exchequer Kwasi Kwarteng’s announcement of the ‘mini-budget’ and their subsequent U-turn at the Tory Party Conference in the face of strong opposition by the markets and a spiralling pound.

Polls usually narrow in the build-up to elections so such a wipeout remains unlikely, yet the sheer scale of backlash reflected in them against Truss speaks volumes.

Wilson only gets elected on the back of Labour votes in Twickenham. Now with such a shift in national opinion, they can vote Labour and get Labour In Twickenham.
