Set in the historic Hays Galleria in London Bridge City, a family-run restaurant offers food and drink for every time of day.
A stone’s throw away from the river Thames, The Shard and Borough Market, Café Piazza could not have dreamed of a more idyllic location.
It would be easy to miss the cosy restaurant as you walk through the impressive Galleria towards the river view.
However once you arrive, Café Piazza has plenty to offer, serving everything from full breakfasts and lunches to set dinner menus and a range of cocktails and wines.
Although the menu is vaguely Italian-themed, there are other worldly influences including Middle Eastern falafel, German pork schnitzel, and Spanish chorizo sausages.
There is a variety of starters to whet your appetite, including smoked salmon paired with marinated beetroot carpaccio and horseradish cream cheese.
As well as its European meat and fish dishes, the restaurant boasts a long list of vegetarian and vegan options, with a whole vegan section to the menu that includes lasagne, arrabbiata, a falafel wrap, a vegan burger, and more.
The vegan ‘Zucca Pizza’ is topped with an interesting combination of butternut squash, pine nuts and tomato sauce; a promising taste combination that is somewhat hidden by the over-generous helping of vegan cheese slathered over it.
Café Piazza is a family-run business: the restaurant manager Jovita Bernotaite leads the front-of-house alongside his brother’s wife and his daughter, and his brother is the head chef.
Bernotaite said: “Café Piazza has established itself, over the years of trading, as a warm and welcoming restaurant.
“We all strongly believe in creating long lasting relationships with our customers, who say that they feel at home here, as we truly care about them and they are always able to have a nice comforting chat with one of us.
“On top of the beautiful setting beneath Hay’s Galleria, right by the river Thames and the al fresco dining, we offer consistent, fresh and home cooked food to go with our beautiful selection of wines.”
